Gen-I: Digital government reform and yours truly on confused messages from ICT Gov Central

fwd“Central government is delivering confusing messages that are not helping agencies and the market understand how to make the transition to the cloud, according to IT Consultant and Blogger, Ian Apperley.

However, Ian went on to commend the DIA’s recent move into a guidance role, with the release of its ‘Requirements for cloud computing’ document which provides advice to ensure that any cloud services that agencies purchase are low risk and high value.

Ian added that this is a big change from mandating that agencies use specific solutions, with the DIA now saying that agencies can use whatever cloud service they want if they use the new guidelines, adding that “the horse has bolted, so let’s do it safely”.

He talked through the raft of challenges that agencies face when adopting cloud, saying we need to move the focus away from “‘iron” to the outcomes citizens want and the reality is, when you move to the cloud you might need to spend more money, not less.”
